Bike with us in Sunny Florida in February!

On our AMAZING Dunedin (Dun-eed-in) Hub Tour, we will enjoy riding paved bike paths, featuring the Pinellas Trail, a wonderful rail trail which connects St Petersburg with Clearwater, Dunedin, Tarpon Springs and other smaller cities. This well-known trail is very popular and passes through quiet neighborhoods, manufacturing centers, past coffee shops and breweries, in several cities and towns. On this tour we will explore areas north and south of Dunedin. We’ll visit Clearwater, Honeymoon Island, Clearwater Beach and Tarpon Springs. We'll also cycle the spectacular Courtney Campbell Causeway Trail across Tampa Bay, one of the longest cycling trails over water in the country!

Our mileage averages around 25 per day on paved bike paths, with more mileage available daily.

What's a Hub Tour? We stay at the same hotel each night -- located ON the bike trail -- and set out on our rides from there each day.

Itinerary

  • Day 1 - Sunday

Meet riders in Dunedin for our introductory meeting and social hour. Then we'll go to dinner at nearby restaurant.

  • Day 2 - Monday

25 miles - We’ll bike the Pinellas Trail south to the lovely 156 acre John S. Taylor Park, then backtrack to Clearwater, where we will take the high bridge path over the bay to Clearwater Beach. This is a spectacular ride! Lunch is on your own in Clearwater Beach. You can explore the beach or walk out on Pier 60 Fishing Pier, or check out the Clearwater Marine Aquarium, before heading back to Dunedin at your own pace.

  • Day 3 - Tuesday

15+ miles - Today we enjoy a gorgeous ride on the Dunedin Causeway Trail out to Honeymoon Island State Park. We’ll set up a rest stop with refreshments for you near the trailhead of the 3-mile Nature Trail. Nearby is the North Beach and its white sandy beaches, take your picnic lunch and enjoy it where you like. We usually see gopher tortoises, ospreys and bald eagles on this day; keep your eyes peeled for a great horned owl! As an option, you may wish to take the ferry from Honeymoon Island to Caladesi Island State Park just to the south, another unspoiled state park. Bring a swim suit and beach towel, explore and relax as you like!

  • Day 4 - Wednesday

28 miles - Greek food, the Sponge Docks, Wall Springs Park, and more great cycling. That sums up today’s activities. We’ll bike north on the Pinellas Trail today, roughly 12 miles, to Tarpon Springs. This Greek community is well known for the Sponge Docks, where divers unload their harvest of sponges. Souvenirs, handmade soaps, local shops and cafe’s abound. After you’ve had your fill you’ll make your way back to the trail and head south. Wall Springs Park makes a good rest spot. You can see the clear springs at the park and explore on the trail which leads to an overlook. The mangroves hold many birds and other creatures. We’ve seen osprey, roseate spoonbill and many other shore birds here. Finish off the ride and you’re back at our hotel.

  • Day 5 - Thursday

20 - 30 miles. Today we'll start out with a short van ride over to Coachman Ridge Park in Clearwater, where we'll start out on the Ream Wilson Trail and head toward Tampa Bay. The trail winds through two more parks before heading north to Safety Harbor along the water, where you may see dolphins playing. Then we'll head back south to connect to the Courtney Campbell Causeway Trail, heading east across Tampa Bay. At nearly 10 miles, it's one of the longest stretches of trail over water in the country! We'll enjoy a picnic lunch at Cypress Point Park in Tampa. After lunch you can either jump in the van to head back, or bike back west across the causeway for a pickup at Courtney Campbell Causeway Beach.
